Where We Started

I promise chatgpt didn't write this. All Laura, baby.
In 2020, after Covid, but before the Derecho, we had another storm that hit. It cost me the largest tree on our tiny 1/3 acre property. I had plenty of wood to use, so I ended up making some silly Christmas ornaments (shout out to anyone who has my OG "F*ck 2020" ornaments).
Those ornaments ended up paying for a new fridge during our kitchen remodel, which I honestly didn't expect. I ended up getting into pyrography, which ended up as an engraver (couldn't keep up with the demand, love that). And now I'm getting into beef tallow products. All thanks to RFK.
100% kidding. My infant son was diagnosed with eczema really early on in his life, and one of my dear friends turned me into using tallow balm. When I looked into it, I figured I could do that myself to save some money and then bam! I'm actually finding more things to do with tallow than I initially planned.
First it was Board Butter - it never made sense to condition my wood boards with mineral oil - we're not supposed to eat or consume it, so why are we putting it on our cutting boards? Enter tallow, aka, my own Board Butter to help with conditioning.
But wait! There's more. We've added sugar scrubs, soaps, what's next? Well, honestly I'm currently working on candles so expect that fun stuff to hit the shelves soon.
Why do I do this? Because I like making money! /<strikethrough>/ Because I love making people happy! And also, I'm really really sick of cheap Chinese made crap. It's plastic, it's gross, and it's not sustainable. I'm not here to make something that hits your dopamine receptors for 5 seconds, I'm here to create something that make a long lasting impression on your skin, your space, your health, everything.
My son's are currently 6 months and 2.5 years old, and if they were tested today they would have round-up and microplastics in their body. And that's disgusting. We need to do better. So, that's what I'm doing... making things that are just better.
We have a jar buy-back program, I want you to bring my jars back to me! Those jars are worth less than .75c, but I'll pay you $2 for the jar. Or, just use it! Just please don't chuck it.
We are a low waste (working towards zero waste) store! This is really difficult with skin care products, but we are doing everything we can to ensure that everything we use can be reduced, reused or recycled.
Speaking of skin care, all of our products are in glass jars! All of our wood is local and from the DSM area - many of are pieces are reclaimed! We will continue to serve you with our best foot forward.
Let me know what questions you have - and let me serve you today!
